Finding Sgt Pepper in Mono for £3

We're back from our mini break and it was exactly what we wanted, rest, relaxation, the beach and ice creams. Something quite interesting happened though. So I've been going to Cromer all my life and I started telling J that I can remember going there once as a child and there was a record fair. I remember it vividly as I was getting into the Beatles and it was the first time I'd see the vinyl "in the flesh" as it were. I was almost star-struck by the experience. So me and J are walking down the high street and I'm looking for the place where the fair was so I could show her... and there was a record fair... We both collect vinyl so we went in...

I'm browsing the records, expecting to maybe get some Sparks LPs. I'm having a rummage through the £3 box because you never know what you're going to see there. I stop, there's a battered to Hell copy of Sgt Pepper! I get it out thinking that maybe it'll be fun to use the sleeve for collage but I start checking the sleeve. Are my eyes deceiving me? It's a mono copy (I won't go into it all now but they would release stereo and mono versions of music for people with stereo and mono record players.) I've always wanted a mono Sgt Pepper because of the differences with the audio. I'm like "surely this is in the wrong place" but take it with me to carry on browsing. I find a couple of Sparks LPs (booyah!) and a compilation of the Move. I go to pay and ask if the Sgt Pepper is really £3. Yes, yes it is, because the sleeve is fucked. I don't argue.

I get it home and lo and behold it is a bit crackly but it doesn't skip anywhere. After further research, it's an original pressing from 1967. I'm going to try clean it up. I'm so chuffed! I don't care about the sleeve, it's my third copy of the album.
