Walking in the rain

Posted by Carl on

I had a day off from work today so I jumped on a bus and visited my parents. I'm very fortunate to have such loving and accepting parents. They raised me to be the person I am now, a bloke who is who he is. They've never judged me for any of the strange foibles I have and I appreciate it. It's always lush to go and see them and spend some time with them.

Whilst I am there, I always go for a big walk. They live near a sand dune so I go for a massive walk. It's a walk I have done hundreds of times over the years and I love it so much. It's one of the places I like to record ambient sounds as well as podcasts etc.

However today was a bit of a gamble because there was a chance of rain which is fine. If it's less than 50% I'll probably risk going for a walk. The famous phrase of there being "no such thing as bad weather, just the wrong clothing". Anyway, I record a couple of episodes and make my way to the beach to meditate. Nothing quite beats meditating on a beach.

The beach, gorgeous init?

The sun comes out and I whip out the suntan lotion to make sure I don't burn (fun fact: I'm a baldie). I also pop on my sunglasses because it's really bright. Now, this is where I jynxed the whole thing. As I'm sat there, I feel it start to spit with rain, it's all good. Just a few spits. I finish up meditating and start my 25 minute walk back...

At this point, it starts to absolutely piss it down, I mean a heavy rain that, even with an umbrella, absolutely drenched me. It's one of those moments where you have to accept your fate and take the soaking. I start to laugh to myself because I gambled the weather and that's what I got. No regrets, I had a lovely walk in nature and it helped my mental health. It's only rain and I'm not made of sugar.
